大学空手部の部室にあった棒を見たところ、棒術の棒にはいくつか種類があるようである。
形状で言えば、真ん中がやや太くなっているもの、全体に同じ太さのもの。素材で言えば白樫、赤樫・・・。
空手の棒術は、全体に同じ太さものがスタンダードのようである。真ん中が太くなっているのは中国拳法の棍術で使うものらしい（何かで読んだとの記憶）。
一通り触ってみたが、素材は白樫が手にしっくり来て使い易かった。就職して地方に引っ越すに当たって、東京の武道具屋さんへ棒を買いに行ったが、たまたま在庫が赤樫しかなく、またいつ来られるか判らないのでそれを買った。当時はまだ学生でなけなしのお金だった。だから今でもその棒を使っている。

I touched it all over, but white oak was easy to use because it used to fit in my hand. When I got a job and before I moved to a rural area, I went to a martial arts shop in Tokyo to buy a Bo, but I happened to have a red oak in stock, so I didn't know when I could come again, so I bought it. At that time, I was still a student and had little money. So I still use that Bo.
