Naihanchi has a hooking action, but at one point I had been practicing repeatedly while wondering if this could be effective.
In the case of a hooking action, the movement of the upper arm is almost the same as the movement of a regular thrust. It is raised straight up. However, when the height of the elbow increased to the height of the forearm for a hooking action, I began to feel that my elbow and shoulder had something like a "crowing."
In the three months of karate training written by Gensei-ryu Shukumine-sensei, there was a statement that the power of thrusting occurred on the lining (back of the elbow) (I may have a memory mistake because I read it when I was in junior high school), So I was thinking about this for a while. However, this is just an assumption without any basis.
When I think back, there is no hooking in the Genseiryu Naihanchi, so when I started thinking that this movement was not always a thrust, I found a video of Mr. Onaga of Okinawa Shinjinbukan. Mr. Onaga said, this behavior is good for everything. It is said that it can be a hooking or a elbow. I thought it was true. Since then, I have not tried to keep the interpretation of the kata as fixed as possible.
