首里手の型を調べているときに、昔は首里手でもサンチンを稽古していたとの記述を見つけたことがある。知っている人も多いと思うがサンチンは那覇手の型であり、知る限り現在の首里手にはない。すると、首里手でやっていたというサンチンがどんな型なのか気になってくる。
サンチンについて少し調べてみたところ、同名でいくつものバージョンがあるようである。どれが首里手のサンチンか判らず、諦め掛けていたが、たまたま宇城憲治氏の型の教本で、心道流のサンチンを見つけた。宇城氏は、以前著書を古本で読んだところ同感するところがとても多かったので、迷わすその本を買ってサンチンを覚えた。
やっているときには気付かなかったのだけれども、同じような呼吸法の型として、半月（セイサン）の前に練習していたところ、呼吸法、運足、手技が両型でとても似ているなと思うようになった。一時、二つの型が自分の中でごちゃ混ぜになってしまったくらいである。何を目的に練習するかにもよるけれども、そのくらい似ているので、首里手では自然淘汰的にサンチンが消えていったのだろうか。
ただ、サンチンは型の構成がナイハンチのように比較的単純で、いろいろ考えながら試行錯誤的にやるのに良い。通常は外受けの後、一度手を引いてから突き手を出すが、外受けした状態から刻み突きのようにそのまま突いて見たり、全て開掌にして、外受けから掛け手・取手にして抜き手で突いて見たり。

When I was investigating Shuri-te's kata, I found a description that they used to practice Sanchin even in Shuri-te. As many people know, Sanchin is a kata of Nahate, and as far as I know, it is not in the current Shurite. Then, I'm wondering what kind of Sanchin was doing in Shurite.
I did some research on Sanchin and it seems that there are several versions with the same name. I didn't know which one was Shurite's Sanchin, and I had gave up. But I happened to find a Shindo-ryu Sanchin in the textbook of Kenji Ushiro. I have often agreed, when I read a book in a secondhand book of Mr. Ushiro before, so I bought the textbook and learned Sanchin.
Although I did not notice when I was doing it, I was practicing before Hangetsu(Seisan) as a kata of breathing method, and that breathing method, foot movement, and technique are very similar in both katas. I started to think. At one point, the two molds were all mixed up in me. Although it depends on what purpose I am practicing, since it is so similar, I wonder if Sanchin disappeared naturally at Shurite.
However, Sanchin has a relatively simple mold structure like Naihanchi and is good for trial and error while thinking about various things. Normally, after pulling out the other hand once after the outer receive, I put out the thrust, but from the state of receiving I try to make a nick punch, or open palm and put a hand / take a hand I can poke it.
