玄制流の基本型は天・地・人位の型の3つであり、その集大成として三才の型がある。それぞれ、空手の手技・足技・肘技を合理的に身につけることができるように、とてもよく考えられていると思う。一方、大学空手部での基本型は、平安（ヘイアン）である。これは5つもあるものの、初めてやったときにはどれも古伝の型の技を部分的に取って付けたようなものだな、との印象を持った。これでは空手の基本技はなかなか身につかないだろうなと思ったし、空手部の人たちを見ても基本技（形）が皆、下手だった（空手部の方々、こんなことを書いて申し訳ありません）。
だから将来空手を続けるとしたら、或いは人に教えるとしたら、取って付けたような5つの型をやるよりも、3つの型で合理的に基本技を身につけることができる玄制流の型を、とずっと思っていた。ところが、「隠されていた空手」を見たときに平安の型の印象がガラッと変わった。
前手は攻撃、後ろ手は防御で、基本的に型で想定する相手は一人。その教えにより型の解釈がし易くなった。何より平安三段の最初の受け替えの動作の解釈には驚いた。ずっと「何だ、これ？」と思っていた動作がとても合理的に解釈されていた。「隠されていた空手」によって、取って付けたような何の魅力も感じていなかった平安の型が、古流の味わいのある型となったのである。
今では、もし人に教えるなら平安の型を「隠されていた空手」の解釈と共にやりたいと思うようになった。ただ、玄制流の基本型もとても好きであり、なかなか古流の型と同様の解釈はできないが練習は続けたい。

There are three basic katas of the Genseiryu: Ten-I, Chi-I, and Jin-I, and the culmination is Sansai. I think that they are very well thought out so that they can reasonably learn karate, hand, foot, and elbow skills. On the other hand, the basic Kata in the university karate club is Heian. Although there are five of them, I got the impression that when I first tried them, they were all part of the old-fashioned technique. I thought it would be difficult for me to learn basic karate skills, and even when I looked at the people in the karate club, they were all poor at basic skills. (the karate club people, sorry to say like this.)
Therefore, if I want to continue karate or teach people in the future, I had thout I should reasonably learn basic skills with three katas rather than doing the five katas. However, when I saw "hidden karate," the impression of Heian changed dramatically.
The attack is on the front hand, and the defense is on the back hand. Basically, there is only one opponent to assume in the kata. The teaching made it easier to interpret the kata. Above all, I was surprised at the interpretation of the first movement of Heian Sandan. The behavior that I always thought "what is this?" Was interpreted very rationally. By the "hidden karate", the Heian kata, which did not feel any charm like it was attached, became a kata with an old-fashioned taste.
Nowadays, if I want to teach people, I want to do the katas of heian with the interpretation of "hidden karate." However, I also like the basic kata of the Genseiryu style very much, and although I can't quite interpret it like the old style, I want to continue practicing.
