玄制流のS.I.先生の稽古は週一、1時間であり、自主トレをしなければ不足を感じていたこと、なかなか自主トレの場所・キッカケもないことから、空手部に入ることとした。高校にも空手部はあったものの、身体が伸びきる前に筋肉を鍛え過ぎると身長が伸びなくなると思い込んでいたこと、大学進学を考えていたことから、進学してからやることとした。
大学空手部は幸か不幸か試合に出ておらず、江上流の空手をやっていたところで、結果的にはかなりの影響を受けた。特にこの歳になって今、空手を振り返るようになったのは、当時、型中心でやっていたお陰だろう。大学空手部が競技空手であれば、大学卒業に合わせ、二度とやることがなかったかも知れない。
なお、宮本先生は入部した頃には会派の組織と何事かあったそうで、脱会するとともに空手部の師範を辞しておられた。幸い、大学体育の授業をやられており1年間ご教示頂く機会があった。また、空手部の先輩方を介してその教えを伝授頂いた。
残念ながらその大学空手部は未だに師範不在のようである。空手の型は解釈の変化等によって同一人物であっても年と共に動作が変わったりするので、特定の指導者が不在というのはより高リスクだと思う。未だに師範不在というのはとても残念。

S.I.shihan of Genseiryu held a lesson an hour／once a week.I decided to enter into the karate department because I felt shortage without the voluntary training and there wasn't much place for the voluntary training. Although there were karate clubs in my high school as well, as I assumed that I wouldn't be able to grow tall if I trained too much muscle before I could grow, and I was thinking about going to college, so I decided to enter the karate club of the college.
The university karate club was not playing a competition, fortunately or unfortunately, and playing karate in Egamiryu, I was considerably affected. Especially at this age, the fact that I began to look back on karate is probably because of the kata-centered style at the time. If the college karate club has been a competition karate, I might not have done again with the graduattion from the college.
In addition, when Mr. Miyamoto had had some trouble with the organization of the Shotokai, he left and resigned from the karate club's shihan, but fortunately he has been teaching college physical education and I had the opportunity to be taught for one year. We also were taught the teaching of him through senior members of the karate club.
Unfortunately, the college karate club still seems to don't have a shihan. The kata of karate changes with the year even if it is the same person due to changes in interpretation, etc., so I think that the absence of a specific leader is a higher risk. It is very disappointing that there is still no shihan.
