組手で相手の攻撃手を受けるとき、玄制流では相手の手を叩き割る積りで弾くように、とよく言われた。大学空手部では、相手が痛みを感じないように柔らかく受け、相手の力の方向を変えるように、と教えられた。相手の突き手を弾くのではなく、押さえ込む積りで下段払いすれば、相手の体制を崩すことができ、転がすこともできるようになる。ただ、これは一般に通じるのか、疑問だった。
就職して会社の寮生活をしていたとき、同期連中が酔っ払い、他の同期を次々に集団で風呂に落とすという遊びを始めたことがある。結婚して寮を出る人がいて、そのお祝いの飲み会の時のことである。筆者はたまたまその飲み会に出られず、寮に帰ってから何か騒いでいるなと思いつつ部屋に戻っていた時、その同期連中が押しかけ、多人数で両手・両足を抱えて風呂場に連れて行こうとした。そのとき、玄制流で稽古した、相手の手を外す動作で足を外し、手を外したところ、何人かが飛びかかってきた。会社の同期で大事な友人である。酔っているとは言え、怪我をさせる訳にはいかない。柔らかく受けて悉く転がした。一般に通じたのである。
その後一人が胴にしがみついてきて、目の前に相手の頭があるので咄嗟に猿臂を落としそうになったが同期にそんなことを出来るわけも無く、怯んだところを見透かされて羽交い締めに合い、そこで抵抗を諦めたところ、そのまま風呂に落とされた。
結婚する人が出る度にこんなことをやられてはたまったものでは無いなと思いつつ、良い経験をさせて貰った。

After that, one person clung to the torso, and the opponent's head was in front of me, so I almost think to drop my elbow, but there was no way I could do such a thing, and they saw my carelessness. I gave up my resistance and was dropped down in the bath.
I had a good experience, but I thought that this was not unbearable that was done every time if someone got married.
