正座しての礼は世間ではどのように教わっているのだろうか。
玄制流では、正座の際には両膝を肩幅に開き、礼は顔も含めて45°下げるが、相手が必ず視界に入るようにと教えられた。相手が不穏な動きをしたときにすぐ対処できるようにということであった。立礼も同じ。
大学空手部では、正座の際の両膝は拳一つか二つ分開く程度で、礼の際には両手の人差し指と親指で三角形を作って両手を着き、その三角形の中に鼻を入れる心持で深々と礼をするよう教えられた。
当時、新入部員の時に生意気にも4年生の大先輩に「礼は45°、常に相手を見るものと思っていましたが？」と問うたところ即座に「それって、相手を信用してないってことだろう？」と言われた。それ以来、時と場合と相手によって礼の仕方を変えるようにしている。
