相手の突き手を外側へ払いのける中段受けは各流派で何と言うのだろうか。玄制流では、外側に払うので、”中段外受け“である。小学生の頃に教えて頂いてから、ごく当たり前の命名だと思っていたし、何の疑問も持っていなかった。
これを大学空手部では、“中段内受け”と称していた。玄制流では中段内受けという名称で別の受け方があり、とても違和感を持ったのを覚えている。郷に入れば郷に従えで、当時特に異論は唱えなかったがずっと疑問であった。
何かでたまたま読んだのだけれど、組み手で相手の内側に入って受ける形になるから内受けと称するそうである。成程とは思ったけども、首里手の基本は常に相手の外側に踏み込むようにするそうである。同じ受けで相手の外側に踏み込んだら外受けと称するのだろうか。
やはり、どうしても違和感があり、相手の突き手を自分から見て内側から外側に払う中段受けのことは、玄制流の呼び名の通り中段外受け、逆方向の受けを中段内受けと称することとする。

What does the middle receiving that throw off the opponent's thrust to the outside say in each faction? In Genseiryu, you receive to outside, so it is a "middle-stage outside receive". Since I was taught when I was in elementary school, I thought it was a natural naming and had no doubts.
This was called "middle-stage inside receive" by the university karate club. In Genseiryu, there is another way of receiving it under the same name and I remember that it was very strange. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, I followed it. But I was always in doubt.
I happened to read something, but it said that it was called inside receiving because it entered into the inside of the opponent with kumite and received it. I thought it was a good deal, but the basics of Shurite are to always step outside the opponent. If you step outside of the opponent with the same receiver, will it be called an outside receiving?
After all, there is a sense of incongruity, and I will call the middle deffense that receive from the inside to the outside as the middle outside receiving like the name of Genseiryu, and the opposite direction receiving as the middle inside receiving.
